Heritage releases tetracycline generic

Heritage Pharmaceuticals Inc. has launched tetracycline HCl capsules, indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections. The company said Monday that its product, available in in strengths of 250 mg and 500 mg, is the AB-rated generic equivalent to the antibiotic Achromycin V.

EATONTOWN, N.J. — Heritage Pharmaceuticals Inc. has launched tetracycline HCl capsules, indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections.

The company said Monday that its product, available in in strengths of 250 mg and 500 mg, is the AB-rated generic equivalent to the antibiotic Achromycin V.

Heritage noted that it’s the first generic drug manufacturer to reintroduce tetracycline capsules, which have been on the Food and Drug Administration’s drug shortage list for the past two years.

Tetracycline is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, acne, gonorrhea and chlamydia.
