A New York metro-area community pharmacy operator has embraced a boutique concept with the opening of i+care Pharmacy in downtown Brooklyn.
The i+care Pharmacy store melds a pharmacy with an optical center in an upscale retail setting that caters to an increasingly affluent customer base that’s rapidly evolving around the location, situated across from Macy’s and adjacent to Fulton Mall, as well as near City Point.
The boutique pharmacy format marks a new concept for the owners, who already operate several pharmacy in the metro New York marketplace but requested anonymity.
New York-based branding, interiors and graphics firm StudioBIG, which designed the i+care Pharmacy site at 200B Livingston St., said the concept conveys a clean, modern aesthetic, as “whites and blues create a cool, hygienic-looking palette, while touches of wood provide warmth and a nod to the pharmacy’s natural, organic focus.”
From the outside, custom signage and a brow-raising optical department are intended to draw customers into a long space featuring optical displays and service in the front and the pharmacy in the back, according to StudioBIG. Visual cues, such as distinctive blue-and-white floor tiles and floating white ceiling planes, lead visitors through the space.
Meanwhile, the pattern of the floor tiles continues onto the optical display cases and pharmacy desk to attract attention to points of customer service.
StudioBIG said all pharmacy shelving was dropped to eye level to maintain visual connection from the front of the store to the back. In addition, the L-shaped floor plan enables back-of-house pharmacy space to be hidden from customers’ view.
