SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Consumers will be able to digitize videotapes and movie film via their local Walgreens store through the drug chain’s new agreement with iMemories.
iMemories said Tuesday that its partnership with Walgreens creates the nation’s largest single network of retail locations offering home movie transfer services.
In addition, iMemories’ cloud-based platform will allow customers to store, view and share their home movies in their duration and full resolution from virtually any device screen, according to the Scottsdale, Ariz.-based online provider for digitizing, storing and sharing personal videos and photos.
To use the service, customers bring their aging videotapes and movie film reels to their local Walgreens to be transferred from their original analog formats into digital video. They can then preview, edit and further customize the contents of their original home movies online before they are transferred to their choice of new media, such as DVDs or Blu-ray discs.
Customers, too, can view and share their vintage home movies on the go with their iPhone, iPad or Android device via iMemories mobile apps.
"Of the 114 million American households, many people have a large number of home movies still in aging, original formats. The ability to view precious family memories from a mobile device, tablet, computer or TV is incredible," Jasbir Patel, senior director and general merchandise manager of photo and e-commerce at Walgreens, said in a statement. "Our DVD Transfer service fully leverages today’s multiscreen world and is an unparalleled solution to help preserve captured video."
The videotape and movie transfer orders are made through the photo department of any Walgreens store. Photo associates can assist in the process, or customers can get started right away by using the automated kiosk located in the photo section.
