Jean Coutu stores serve up free wireless access

The Jean Coutu Group is now providing free access to the wireless network in most of its drug stores in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick.

LONGUEUIL, Quebec — The Jean Coutu Group is now providing free access to the wireless network in most of its drug stores in Quebec, Ontario and New Brunswick.

The Canadian drug chain said Tuesday that the service will enable customers to navigate on the Internet while waiting for their prescriptions to be filled or while running errands.

Customers can connect to the wireless network using a smartphone, a tablet or a laptop, and they can find out online which stores offer free wireless access at jeancoutu.com/localisateur.

The Jean Coutu PJC network is the only pharmacy chain in Quebec to offer free wireless Internet, the company said.

"We are proud to be able to offer our customers free access to the wireless network," François Coutu, president and chief executive officer of the Jean Coutu Group, said in a statement. "Today, the Internet is an essential tool for many reasons. This service will facilitate the daily life of many people."

Overall, Jean Coutu Group operates a network of 407 franchised stores Quebec, New Brunswick and Ontario under the PJC Jean Coutu, PJC Clinique, PJC Santé and PJC Santé Beauté banners.
