HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart has begun offering flu vaccinations on a walk-in basis at its in-store pharmacies.

The discount store chain, part of Sears Holdings Corp., said Thursday that flu shots are available for as low as $24.99.

Members of its Shop Your Way rewards program who get a flu vaccine at Kmart Pharmacy also receive a $5 Kmart gift card with coupon, available in select circulars and online at KmartPharmacy.com/flu.

Dain Rusk, vice president and general manager of pharmacy for Sears Holdings, noted that it’s not too early to get immunized. Flu season occurs in the fall and winter, typically peaking in January or February, but can begin as early as October and last as late as May.

"Preparing for flu season early is important, but we realize families are busy this time of year," Rusk said in a statement. "We encourage families to take this important step to protect their health, and Kmart Pharmacy makes it easy to just walk in and check it off your list."

He added that Kmart pharmacists also can help patients determine which flu vaccine is best for them, including high-dose flu vaccines (for people age 65 and older) or quadrivalent flu vaccines, which protect against four strains of influenza. Kmart pharmacists also are trained and qualified to provide advice on and administer other immunizations, including pneumonia, Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), meningitis and shingles.

Overall, Kmart operates 840 pharmacies in its approximately 1,150 discount stores.
