Kroger expands savings programs to improve access to GLP-1 medications

The initiative merges pharmacy access with nutrition support, fresh food, and dietitian services, making Kroger a comprehensive destination for weight management and wellness.

CINCINNATI — The Kroger Co. family of companies and its pharmacies are participating in multiple savings programs, including manufacturer-sponsored offers, designed to help eligible customers lower the cost of certain GLP-1 medications.

The initiative combines pharmacy access with nutrition support, fresh food options, and registered dietitian services, establishing Kroger as a comprehensive destination for customers focused on weight management and overall wellness goals.

“In a time when customers are seeking convenient, reliable and affordable support, Kroger delivers,” said Colleen Lindholz, president of Kroger Health. “We’re committed to expanding access to medication, pharmacy expertise and practical nutrition guidance that puts food at the center of well-being.”

Integrated Pharmacy and Nutrition Support

Kroger pharmacies accept prescriptions from any provider and help customers navigate insurance coverage, manufacturer savings programs, and cash-pay options to find the most affordable solution based on individual needs. Pharmacists also offer counseling on how GLP-1 medications work, what to expect during treatment, and strategies for managing potential side effects to support adherence.

Customers can access ongoing support throughout their weight-loss journey, including referrals to registered dietitians and other healthcare providers. In select states, Kroger offers in-store or virtual evaluations with licensed providers who can prescribe GLP-1 medications when appropriate.

Food-Forward Approach to Wellness

Kroger emphasizes a food-first approach alongside medication access. The retailer highlights its range of fresh produce, lean proteins, and fiber-rich options to help customers meet nutritional needs while on GLP-1 therapies. Dietitians also direct customers toward over-the-counter products, including protein powders, fiber supplements, and certain vitamins, when suitable and coordinated with healthcare professionals.

To further support informed shopping, Kroger encourages customers to use its OptUP program and FoodHealth Score tools to identify products aligned with balanced eating goals.
