CINCINNATI — Kroger Co. plans to deploy self-use health screening kiosks at all of its 1,950 pharmacy locations nationwide.

The food and drug retailer said Tuesday that the Kroger HealthCENTER kiosks, provided by Stayhealthy Inc., a California-based wellness solutions company, will give its customers a convenient way to measure, monitor and improve body composition and other clinical conditions.

Health assessments offered via the kiosks include blood pressure, weight, body composition, body mass index (BMI) and color vision. Users also will be able to upload blood glucose numbers and other biometric results.

Kroger said it has been piloting the HealthCENTERs at about 275 pharmacy locations since January. The kiosks are currently available to customers in Cincinnati; Lexington, Ky.; and Denver. Plans call for most other Kroger pharmacies to have the kiosks by early 2013.

"Our customers tell us they want to make healthy choices but don’t always know where to start," Matthew Feltman, Kroger’s health strategy coordinator, said in a statement. "We’re pleased to expand the availability of Kroger HealthCENTERs to help customers take their first steps toward overall health and wellness."

Kroger added that customers will also be able to create personal health record accounts, which they can access via Kroger.com, as well as be able to access to health information and solutions to help them in their personal health and fitness goals.

Overall, Kroger has 2,425 supermarkets and multi-department stores in 31 states under two dozen banners, including Kroger, City Market, Dillons, Jay C, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, King Soopers, QFC, Ralphs and Smith’s.
