RICHMOND, British Columbia — London Drugs has begun flu vaccination clinics at stores across British Columbia and Alberta.
The western Canada drug chain said the flu shot clinics started this week and are being held through Nov. 1 in Alberta and Nov. 17 in British Columbia.
Fifty-one London Drugs locations in British Columbia and 22 stores in Alberta are scheduled to hold the flu vaccine clinics.
London Drugs said the flu immunizations cost $18 and noted that British Columbia residents should ask if they qualify for a free flu shot. Alberta residents with a personal health number receive free shots. According to the chain, its pharmacists can vaccinate children age 5 years and older in British Columbia and children age 9 and older in Alberta.
The pharmacy operator said people who should consider a flu vaccination include seniors, their caregivers and those with chronic health conditions such as asthma, diabetes and heart conditions. The chain added that in Alberta and British Columbia, its certified injection pharmacists can also administer vaccines such as hepatitis A/B, shingles and tetanus.
Also to promote prevention this cold and flu season, London Drugs issued the following tips: avoid touching your face and wash hands frequently; avoid shaking hands or being in crowded indoor areas; keep a liquid/gel cleansing antibacterial agent handy for when you can’t wash your hands with soap and water; cleanse you hands after taking public transit, touching elevator buttons or door knobs; and sanitize makeup and beauty tools.
Overall, London Drugs has 75 drug stores in more than 35 major markets in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.
