NEW YORK — Hundreds of people joined executives from Markwins International and Walgreen Co. and singer Fergie to celebrate the companies’ presentation of $50,000 to fund AIDS research.

Held Thursday evening at the swank Tao Downtown Lounge in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, the event was billed as a "Little Party for a Big Cause."

The Markwins and Walgreens donation was presented to amFAR, The Foundation for AIDS research, a New York-based organization that provides funding for projects around the globe seeking to find a cure for the often-deadly disease.

The money raised by the beauty care supplier and the drug chain came from the sale of Markwins’ signature line of Fergie cosmetics, offered under its wet n wild label.

A portion of the sale of each Fergie Center Stage Collection item sold in Walgreens is donated to charity.

In addition, Markwins and Walgreens recently teamed up for the "Party With Fergie" sweepstakes, a contest that gave the drug chain’s shoppers a chance to win a trip to New York to be part of last night’s event.
