MONTREAL — McKesson Canada has seen its retail pharmacy banner business continue to grow.

The company’s roster of pharmacy banners includes Guardian, I.D.A., Medicine Shoppe Canada, Proxim and the newly acquired Remedy’sRx. The company’s pickup this year of Remedy’sRx brought its store count to nearly 2,000 in nine provinces. The purchase followed last year’s increase in membership of close to 100 new members.

And in 2014, pharmacy members purchased eight Shoppers Drug Mart stores that had to be divested when SDM was acquired by Loblaw Cos.

“We’re all about providing access to health care, and we’re not having trouble attracting independent owners who share that vision,” said Dale Weil, senior vice president of integrated health care solutions, strategy and business developement, at McKesson Canada. Weil had served as interim leader for the retail banners until the appointment of Richard Brennan as senior vice president of retail banner management services, which became effective in mid-March.
