KENILWORTH, N.J. — Merck Manuals is making its online drug and medical information resource available across Walgreens.
Merck Manuals said Monday that its MerckManuals.com service will now be made readily available to pharmacists at the more than 8,000 Walgreens pharmacies and nurse practitioners at the over 400 Healthcare Clinics nationwide.
The move will give Walgreens health providers one-click access to MerckManuals.com through the company’s portal.
“Working with Walgreens to provide a direct link to MerckManuals.com for its professionals builds on our ongoing commitment to sharing trusted medical information with partners in the health care sphere,” stated Melissa Adams, director of publishing for The Merck Manuals.
MerckManuals noted that the online offering at MerckManuals.com expands on the content in The Merck Manuals, a venerable series of medical reference books for health professionals and consumers alike. Last year, new multimedia features were added to the redesigned website, which includes a newsfeed, expert commentary, infographics, animations, videos, health calculators and trackers, and quizzes, along with a drug interaction checker, pill identifier and guide to pronunciation of medical terms.
More than 350 medical experts currently serve as contributors, and all content is reviewed by an independent editorial board.
Merck & Co. published the original Merck Manual for doctors and pharmacists in 1899. The professional edition has been updated 18 times, most recently in 2011. The first edition of The Merck Manual of Medical Information, developed to address the need for understandable medical information among consumers, was introduced in 1997.
Last June, Merck Manuals launched Global Medical Knowledge 2020, a worldwide effort to make the best current medical information accessible to nearly 3 billion consumers and health care professionals by 2020.
