When asked why he wanted to sponsor and fund these scholarships, Mike Fruth replied, “I wanted to give back to the school that helped me become a pharmacist. I have had a close and positive relationship with Ohio Northern as an alumnus attending events and recruiting potential students for Fruth Pharmacy.”
Furth continued, "I have met many of the ONU students and talked with them about the financial struggles they face in earning a degree in pharmacy. It is nice to be able to help them.” Michael (Mike) Edward Fruth was born on August 7, 1952. and was born three months before his parents, Jack and Frances Fruth opened Fruth Pharmacy in November 1952 in Point Pleasant, West Virginia."

Mike attended WVU for several years and then transferred to Ohio Northern University for Pharmacy School. He liked the smaller campus and appreciated the individual help he received in his education. Following graduation in 1976, he began working as a staff pharmacist for Fruth Pharmacy. In addition to the position of pharmacist, he has been a pharmacy manager and a vice president for Fruth Pharmacy in a career that is approaching 50 years. Even in Semi-Retirement, he can always be counted on to “work the bench” when needed. Mike was a tremendous help during COVID when he worked every day supporting busy stores that needed to do vaccinations. Fruth can still check prescriptions at an amazing speed with accuracy. He is active in the Ohio Pharmacists Association and attending recruiting events at pharmacy schools in WV and OH. Helping people in his role as a community pharmacist has been a great joy in his life.
