SAN FRANCISCO — Mscripts has introduced "family-friendly" pharmacy and shopping capabilities for its Mobile Pharmacy Application Platform.

The company said Friday that new features include proxy prescription management — through which one person can use a smartphone to manage prescriptions for several family members — plus integrated shopping lists and upgrades to the mscripts Coupon Module.

"Pharmacies want to be able to offer prescription management for family members, whether for their four-year-old or an aging parent who requires assistance," stated Hareesh Khurana, vice president of product development at mscripts. "The new features allow users of the app to manage multiple patients under one mobile number, and to easily request and track refills for their whole family."

Users can add items to their shopping list by browsing a store’s inventory, scanning a product bar code, taking a photo or typing in the item desired.

The mscripts Coupon Module, meanwhile, will allow pharmacies to design and manage coupon campaigns and collect metrics, according to the company. Customers can get coupons via their on-phone application or through a text or e-mail message.

In addition, on-phone offers enable users to select coupons by category or brand and view all coupons currently available, in turn allowing them to organize the coupons and make them easier to scan and save. Coupons can be redeemed by scanning the bar code directly from the phone. Consumers also can share a coupon with friends via direct integration with Facebook.

Mark Cullen, chief executive officer of mscripts, noted that the enhanced mobile app functionality brings together shopping and prescription management, resulting in a more productive visit to the pharmacy.

"Pharmacies want to make the process of managing prescriptions and visiting the pharmacy more efficient for their customers," Cullen explained. "These features, combined with our robust couponing capabilities, save customers time and money."

The mscripts Mobile Pharmacy Platform enables patients to communicate with pharmacies through two-way, interactive SMS messaging and supports such mobile device platforms as the iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Windows Mobile 7.
