NACDS Foundation announces 2024-2025 Faculty Scholars

The NACDS Foundation's Faculty Scholars Program supports pharmacy professors in advancing impactful research.

Arlington, Va. – The National Association of Chain Drug Stores Foundation has announced the participants for its 2024-2025 Faculty Scholars Program, an 18-month mentorship initiative designed to foster research excellence among pharmacy faculty across the United States. Five selected scholars will collaborate with seasoned experts to develop and publish impactful research supported by NACDS Foundation starter grants.

This year’s cohort includes:

  • Dr. Creaque Charles, Texas Southern University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, who will investigate how pharmacists’ interventions address medication-related problems in transition-of-care programs.

  • Dr. Mathew Letizia, Medical College of Wisconsin Pharmacy School, who will explore community pharmacy-led tobacco cessation campaigns and the role of pharmacy technicians in these interventions.

  • Dr. Lena McDowell, Auburn University Harrison College of Pharmacy, who will study the use of community pharmacy medication synchronization programs to identify and provide preventive care to individuals at elevated risk for type 2 diabetes.

  • Dr. Lindsey Miller, University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy, who will examine the impact of a social-needs screening conducted by pharmacy delivery drivers, followed by pharmacy technicians trained as community health workers.

  • Dr. Thomas Pile, Marshall University School of Pharmacy, who will analyze how continuous glucose monitors affect oral diabetes medication adherence among people with diabetes.

“Fostering the next generation of leaders is key to ensuring future innovations in public health,” said NACDS Foundation President Dr. Sara Roszak. “We are thrilled to welcome this talented group of Faculty Scholars. Their research will undoubtedly contribute to improving health outcomes and advancing population health.”

The Faculty Scholars Program includes frequent mentor meetings, small cohort working groups, and an online lecture series. Experienced community-based researchers from the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Iowa will facilitate this year’s program.

Participants will showcase their findings at the 2025 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Annual Meeting on July 19-22, 2025, in Chicago, Illinois. Since its inception, the program has supported 50 scholars significantly contributing to healthcare research and practice.
