WASHINGTON — The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) is observing National Immunization Awareness Month with a focus on vaccines, as well as nutrition and its role in immune support. As part of NACDS’ ongoing Nourish My Health public education campaign, NACDS is highlighting participating member pharmacies and their services and solutions at over 25,000 pharmacy locations nationwide.
During National Immunization Awareness Month, NACDS is emphasizing the importance of people of all ages staying up to date on recommended vaccines and the critical role pharmacies play in providing safe, convenient, and affordable access. Routine vaccinations, along with regular health screenings, help lower the risk of complications from infectious diseases — especially for people with chronic conditions, such as diabetes. Adults with diabetes face higher risks from influenza and other infections, underscoring the need to stay current with recommended vaccination schedules.
“National Immunization Awareness Month underscores the vital role pharmacies play in preventive care,” said Steven C. Anderson, president and CEO of NACDS. “Throughout communities, our members are expanding vaccine access, responding to patients’ questions, and supporting chronic-disease management. When care is convenient and close to home, more people get vaccinated and lead healthier lives.”
Launched in 2023 in collaboration with leading national health organizations, NACDS Nourish My Health supports a national strategy to combat hunger, enhance nutrition, and reduce disease. The campaign encourages baseline health screenings and offers healthy eating guidelines. It also runs a nutrition security survey to develop practical ways to expand access and provides resources for professionals. Visit nourishmyhealth.org
