National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) president and CEO Steven Anderson issued the below statement today, following Governor Gavin Newsom’s signing of Senate Bill 41, authored and championed by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco):
"Governor Newsom made the right decision to sign pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform legislation (SB 41) led by Senator Wiener and passed by the California legislature nearly unanimously. This new law puts Californians first over PBM profits. This new law is needed by Californians and by their trusted pharmacies. The PBMs use rhetoric to try to make PBM reform about other things, but it really is about reducing Californians’ drug prices and preserving pharmacy viability and access. We urge California to implement and enforce this law and, next, to stop ‘spread pricing’ that hurts patients, pharmacies, and employers. Thank you to California for making this crucial step forward.”
