ARLINGTON, Va. – In observance of Heart Health Month, the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) is highlighting the critical role pharmacies play in combating heart disease, the leading cause of death in the United States.

Through its Nourish My Health public education campaign, NACDS is spotlighting the efforts of its member pharmacies to provide heart health-related services and solutions at over 25,000 locations nationwide. According to multiple health organizations, heart disease claims one in five lives annually, totaling approximately 700,000 deaths each year.

The initiative, which includes a social media campaign titled Healthy Heart Month, underscores the vital role of pharmacies and pharmacists in promoting health and wellness throughout February and beyond. The campaign encourages the public to engage with content on Facebook, LinkedIn, and X (formerly Twitter) using the official hashtag #NourishMyHealth.

“We are pleased to recognize the important role that pharmacy teams play in supporting heart health,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson. “With a focus on trust and convenience, pharmacies are uniquely positioned to deliver comprehensive care and to emphasize the role that nutrition plays in preventing and managing heart disease.”

Launched in 2023, Nourish My Health is a collaborative effort with leading national health organizations as part of a broader strategy to end hunger, improve nutrition, and reduce disease. The campaign promotes baseline health screenings to identify disease risks, offers healthy food guides and nutrition information, provides resources for healthcare professionals, and conducts a nutrition security survey to inform solutions for improving access to nutritious food.

This initiative builds on NACDS’ ongoing efforts to support public health. In January, the association promoted Health Starts Here, showcasing member pharmacies’ commitment to helping individuals at every stage of their health journey. NACDS has also developed digital content for other health observances, including Diabetes Month, National Immunization Awareness Month, Men’s Health Month, and Women’s Health Month.

In addition to its partnerships with national health organizations, NACDS member pharmacies are actively participating in Nourish My Health at select locations. These efforts include hosting wellness events, immunization clinics, and awareness campaigns to educate communities about heart health and preventive care.

As Heart Health Month unfolds, NACDS continues to emphasize the importance of accessible, community-based healthcare solutions in addressing the nation’s leading cause of death. Through initiatives like Nourish My Health, pharmacies are proving to be essential partners in the fight against heart disease and in promoting overall health and wellness.
