MIAMI — Navarro Discount Pharmacies has opened a pediatric prescription window at one of its Miami outlets.

The window was created to assist parents, particularly working mothers of children with urgent health needs, who require medication.

“Mothers are usually pressed for time, and for children it is important to get their medication as soon as possible,” says Albert Garcia, executive vice president of pharmacy for the 28-unit drug store chain.

He notes that the service, an example of the retailer’s “healthy kids” philosophy, is identified with specific signage. Service is expedited by a Navarro representative, who takes the prescription, consults with the pharmacist and helps to make certain that the medication is dispensed promptly.

Navarro notes that it has also made the area next to the pediatric window “child friendly” by adding a play area with a table, books and toys for children who are waiting with their parents for prescriptions.  Free coloring books and crayons are also available.

Recently, the retailer appointed Steve Kaczynski as its new chief executive officer. Before joining Navarro, Kaczynski was president and chief executive officer of bigg’s, a division of Supervalu Inc.
