Perrigo releases Protopic authorized generic

Perrigo Co. plc has launched an authorized generic version of Protopic Ointment 0.1% and 0.03%. Perrigo said Monday that it has begun shipping its generic product to pharmacies. Protopic Ointment (tacrolimus), from Astellas U.S. LLC, is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe eczema.

DUBLIN, Ireland — Perrigo Co. plc has launched an authorized generic version of Protopic Ointment 0.1% and 0.03%.

Perrigo said Monday that it has begun shipping its generic product to pharmacies.

Protopic Ointment (tacrolimus), from Astellas U.S. LLC, is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe eczema.

Sales of the brand-name product totaled approximately $176 million over the last 52 weeks, according to Symphony Health Solutions data cited by Perrigo.

"This product was the result of the continued hard work and dedication of Perrigo’s Rx and Astellas’ teams," stated Perrigo chairman, president and chief executive officer Joseph Papa. "This launch is another example of Perrigo’s investment and commitment to making quality healthcare more affordable for all consumers across the globe."
