BOULDER, Colo. — Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy has served nearly 400,000 children through its partnership with Vitamin Angels, a nonprofit group that raises funds to help at-risk populations gain access to life-saving and life-changing micronutrients.
The drug chain said Monday that in 2013 alone it has reached more than 80,000 children through Vitamin Angels. Donations have added up to $98,000 since the start of the partnership in 2004, enough money to serve more than 395,000 people.
Pharmaca collects donations for Vitamin Angels throughout the year, with donation cards available at the register in all of its stores. The retailer also runs special promotions each year to encourage customer donations.
"From the start, we have felt strongly about sharing the gift of healthy living with people far and wide, not just with our customers," Don Summerfield, vice president of integrative medicine at Pharmaca, said in a statement. "Vitamin Angels has been the perfect partner in this venture, and we’re so happy we have been able to contribute to their important work."
In particular, Vitamin Angels aims to provide essential nutrients to pregnant women, new mothers and children under age 5. Donations to Vitamin Angels go toward distribution of prenatal vitamins, vitamin A and children’s multivitamins, which help increase immunity and boost overall health to increase these populations’ chances for health and success. Pharmaca said it hopes to reach another 80,000 children through the group next year.
