EDMOND, Ok. — PillSafe, the smart medication management company behind a next-generation secure prescription bottle, has named healthcare and marketing veteran Lon G. von Hurwitz as Chief Strategist and Senior Advisor. The appointment comes as PillSafe readies its product for commercial launch in early 2026.
With more than 30 years of leadership experience in public health, medical technology innovation, and strategic commercialization, von Hurwitz will lead brand modernization efforts and guide go-to-market initiatives. He will work alongside co-founders Jim Patton and Dr. John Barr to position PillSafe as a breakthrough solution in addressing prescription drug misuse and medication adherence.

"We welcome Lon as an invaluable strategic leader to help bring PillSafe to market," said Patton. "His track record in bringing medical technologies to life and navigating investor engagement speaks for itself. He shares our commitment to saving lives and preserving critical healthcare resources."
PillSafe’s core innovation—a smart, wireless-enabled prescription bottle—features secure, timed dispensing and real-time compliance tracking. Designed to prevent unauthorized access and enhance medication accountability, the device provides critical oversight for patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
“PillSafe is the first product of its kind to bring secure, wireless-enabled prescription bottles from the pharmacy to the home,” von Hurwitz said. “It directly addresses how many people first misuse medications by accessing drugs not meant for them, often from a family member or friend. By dispensing only the correct dose at the correct time, PillSafe introduces a needed layer of control and safety into homes.”
PillSafe is collaborating with a consortium of top-tier partners in AI, pharmacy automation, device engineering, and predictive analytics to finalize its technology. The company plans to begin commercialization in early 2026.
Von Hurwitz previously held senior advisory roles at GE Healthcare, where he supported the development of AI-powered neuromodulation therapies. He co-founded Diabetes Treatment Centers International, launching a research institute and clinical program backed by over $5 million in funding. Earlier, he led the development and deployment of biometric health stations at major U.S. airports and oversaw more than 23,000 retail pharmacy kiosks as President of Lifeclinic International.
Beyond healthcare, von Hurwitz has held executive marketing roles with Sony Entertainment, ABC/Disney, and Chrysler, and has served in leadership roles with national nonprofits including MADD and the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
“I am honored to bring my experience and network to the PillSafe team as we finalize this important product,” von Hurwitz said. “We believe PillSafe has the potential to lower ER visits, reduce addiction risk, and improve accountability across the entire medication lifecycle. With the right partners and strategy in place, we are building a tool that can meaningfully change lives.”
PillSafe is a patent-backed smart medication technology company that addresses prescription misuse and promotes patient compliance. Its secure, wireless-enabled delivery system limits access to medication, providing a vital safety net across the pharmaceutical supply chain—from manufacturer to patient. PillSafe is not yet FDA-reviewed and is not available for sale.
