BELLINGHAM, Wash. — Fairhaven Health has rolled out PregEase, a natural supplement designed to relieve two of the most common pregnancy complaints: morning sickness and heartburn.

PregEase blends a range of natural ingredients that address common pregnancy symptoms.

The company said this week that the PregEase chewable tablet, formulated by a team of doctors and nutritionists, combines a range of ingredients to ease pregnancy symptoms, including vitamins B6 and B12 for nausea and vomiting; calcium carbonate and brown seaweed powder (which contains alginic acid) for heartburn; ginger root for nausea caused by motion sickness and for morning sickness); deglycyrrhizinated licorice root for pain associated with heartburn; lemon balm for nausea and other digestive discomfort; and amylase, lipase and protease enzymes to aid digestion and mitigate nausea and heartburn.

An estimated 75% of pregnant women experience morning sickness during the first trimester, and some women feel nauseous all day long, well into the second trimester, Fairhaven noted.

Heartburn is common during pregnancy because the growing baby puts pressure on the intestines, stomach and esophagus, which can slow digestion and increase the likelihood of stomach acid going back up into the esophagus, the company said.

"Morning sickness and heartburn cause real discomfort for many women during pregnancy," stated Suzanne Munson, director of product development at Fairhaven Health. "Fortunately, there are several natural ingredients that have been scientifically demonstrated to exert a beneficial effect in alleviating these symptoms, including vitamin B6 and ginger. With PregEase, we’ve brought together several of these validated ingredients and put them into a chewable tablet that tastes good even when you’re feeling nauseous — no small feat."

Fairhaven Health’s products include ovulation prediction tools, fertility supplements, prenatal vitamins and breastfeeding support. Its distribution partners include hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, specialty retail stores and online retailers such as CVS.com, drugstore.com and walgreens.com.
