LOS ANGELES — Ralphs Grocery Co. has started providing flu vaccinations through its in-store pharmacies.
The food and drug chain said that beginning in August, flu vaccines will be administered by Ralphs Pharmacies’ certified immunizing pharmacists for $25 per vaccine in the 91 in-store pharmacies that Ralphs operates throughout southern California.
"Helping our customers protect themselves and their families with this year’s all-in-one flu shot is another way Ralphs Pharmacies make it easy and affordable to find health and wellness solutions in our stores," Rebecca Cupp, vice president of pharmacy for Ralphs, said in a statement. "No appointment is necessary at most Ralphs pharmacies. In addition, our team of expert pharmacists provides professional counsel and service in a convenient, friendly environment."
Ralphs noted that this year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a flu shot for everyone over the age of six months, and that the 2010-11 vaccine offers protection against three strains of flu, including H1N1. The supermarket retailer reported that according to the CDC, a flu shot can reduce the chance of becoming infected by influenza by up to 70%.
Los Angeles-based Ralphs, a division of The Kroger Co., operates a total of 257 supermarkets.
