GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. — Former CVS Caremark Corp. executive David Rickard has been appointed to the board of directors at deep discount retailer Dollar General Corp.
Plans call for Rickard to chair the board’s audit committee. The appointment, announced Wednesday, follows the naming of another former chain drug executive — onetime Longs Drug Stores chief executive officer Warren Bryant — to the seven-member the Dollar General board in November.
Rickard served as executive vice president, chief financial officer and chief administrative officer at CVS Caremark from September 1999 to December 2009. He unveiled plans to retire from the company early last year.
Before joining the drug store chain and pharmacy benefit management company, Rickard spent two years as senior vice president and chief financial officer at RJR Nabisco Holdings Corp.
"We are pleased to welcome such a retail veteran to our board," Dollar General chairman and CEO Rick Dreiling said in a statement. "Dave’s years of experience and diverse retail industry background will be an asset to the Dollar General board. We are certain that his expertise will serve Dollar General well as we work to move the company forward."
Dollar General has more than 8,700 neighborhood stores in 35 states.
