CAMP HILL, Pa. — Health care industry veteran Myrtle Potter has joined Rite Aid Corp.’s board of directors.
The drug chain announced the election of Potter to its board on Tuesday. She is currently chief executive officer of Myrtle Potter & Co., a Silicon Valley-based life sciences and health care consulting firm, and of Myrtle Potter Media Inc., a consumer health care content company.
"We are pleased that Myrtle has accepted a position on our board," Rite Aid chairman and chief executive officer John Standley said in a statement. "Her extensive knowledge and leadership in health care, particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, will add an important dimension and perspective to our board as we assess how to most effectively grow our business and meet the health and wellness needs of our customers in a rapidly changing and evolving healthcare environment."
Rite Aid noted that Potter brings more than 30 years of health care industry experience to its board. Before forming her own consulting company, Potter was president of commercial operations and chief operating officer at Genentech Inc. She has also held executive positions with Bristol-Myers Squibb and Merck.
In addition, Potter currently serves on the boards of Liberty Mutual Holding Co., a diversified, global insurance services company; Proteus Digital Health Inc., a company that develops and commercializes digital health solutions; and Everyday Health Inc., a digital health solutions provide.
Potter is the third new member to join Rite Aid’s board in 2013, with all three bringing strong health care industry experience. Last month, the board elected Kevin Lofton, president and CEO of Catholic Health Initiatives, as a director. And joining the board in May was Bruce Bodaken, former chairman and CEO of Blue Shield of California.
Rite Aid’s board now has eight members. Besides Potter, Lofton, Bodaken and Standley, the board includes Michael Regan, the lead independent director; David Jessick, a former Rite Aid and Fred Meyer executive; Joseph Anderson, chairman and CEO of TAG Holdings; and Marcy Syms, former chair and CEO of Syms Corp.
