CAMP HILL, Pa. — In response to new state regulations, Rite Aid has broadened the range of vaccines it provides in West Virginia.
Rite Aid said West Virginia has implemented new rules that allow Rite Aid pharmacists to administer more immunizations at its stores in the state. As a result, the drug chain has certified immunizing pharmacists at all of its more than 100 West Virginia locations and is offering the vaccinations daily on a walk-in basis.
Under the recently enacted regulations, pharmacists at all Rite Aid stores in West Virginia can immunize adults 18 and older against eight vaccine-preventable diseases. Vaccinations available daily include hepatitis A, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough and shingles.
Rite Aid added that its pharmacists in the state have long been able to provide vaccines against flu and pneumonia.
"Thanks to the new regulations, it’s easier than ever for West Virginians in both rural and urban communities to protect themselves against a wide range of diseases," Bill Cropper, Rite Aid’s vice president of pharmacy for the region including West Virginia, said in a statement. "We thank Gov. Manchin, Gov. Tomblin and the legislature for recognizing the benefit of increased access to vaccines, and we also thank the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy for overseeing the regulations’ passage with a special acknowledgement to the West Virginia Board of Medicine and the West Virginia Board of Osteopathy for their assistance."
