CAMP HILL, Pa. — At its California stores, Rite Aid Corp. has added six new flavors to its Thrifty Ice Cream private label.

The drug chain said Tuesday that the new flavors include two Greek-style nonfat frozen yogurts, making Thrifty is one of the first ice cream brands to convert Greek-style yogurt into a sweeter, frozen variety.
The two Greek-style flavors are Blueberry Cheesecake and Chocolate Lovers, and Rite Aid said a Strawberry Greek-style frozen yogurt flavor is on the way. Greek yogurt is characterized by higher protein content, lower levels of lactose and live probiotic cultures that can help aid digestion.
Thrifty’s four new ice cream flavors include Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Red Velvet, Mint ‘n Chip and Pistachio Nut.
All of the new flavors, available at nearly all Rite Aid stores in California, come in take-home pint containers for $2.29 each. The two Greek-style varieties have bold, green packaging to match the current nonfat frozen yogurt varieties, which were introduced last July, the retailer said.
"Rite Aid is proud to be one of the first retailers to offer Greek-style frozen yogurt," Ron Simmer, general manager of the Thrifty Ice Cream plant in El Monte, Calif., said in a statement. "Like the many storied Thrifty flavors that came before, our Greek-style varieties are primarily sourced, made and distributed in California — all for about half the price of most national competitors."
The new varieties expand the Thrify Ice Cream lineup to more than 30 flavors. Each year, the private brand also rolls on some limited-edition flavors.
