CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. drug stores are offering free full-body screenings for skin cancer as part of the Skin Cancer Foundation’s “Road to Healthy Skin” tour.

Rite Aid Corp. drug stores are offering free full-body screenings for skin cancer as part of the Skin Cancer Foundation’s “Road to Healthy Skin” tour.

Also sponsored by Aveeno, the tour includes stops at more than 40 Rite Aid stores over the next six months as it travels across the nation in a 38-foot RV.

Rite Aid’s leg of the tour kicked off earlier this month with stops at two Atlanta stores. The tour will visit Rite Aid stores in Washington, D.C., and 17 states: Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, California, Oregon, Washington, Utah and Colorado.

The tour draws on the expertise of local dermatologists, who donate their time to encourage annual skin cancer screenings. Visitors also can get coupons and samples of sun protection products as well as educational materials about how to perform monthly skin checks at home and guard daily against the sun.

Rite Aid has been a presenting sponsor of the tour since its start in 2008. “Proactive initiatives such as health screenings are a crucial part of Rite Aid’s overall mission to help our patients lead healthier lives,” states Rite Aid executive vice president of pharmacy Robert Thompson.

Rite Aid has been a leader in sun protection. Last fall, chairman and chief executive Mary Sammons received the Skin Cancer Foundation’s Skin Sense Award. The drug chain also distributes hundreds of thousands of free skin care guides in its stores and online.

And in February Rite Aid expanded its Rx Suncare line to 10 items, all of which cost less than $10. Most of the products bear the foundation’s Seal of Recommendation.
