CAMP HILL, Pa. — Rite Aid Corp. is providing free oral health guides in stores and online and offering wellness+ loyalty program rewards for purchases of oral care products.
The drug store chain said Tuesday that the campaign, launched this week and running to Sept. 27, aims to show the importance of good oral hygiene and how it’s connected to overall health.
For instance, experts think untreated gum disease may heighten the risk for heart disease and stroke, and good oral health is key for people with diabetes since gum disease may make it more difficult to manage blood sugar, according to Rite Aid. The chain noted that it’s pharmacists are also readily available for advice on oral health concerns.
Also through Sept. 27, wellness+ members can earn $5 in +UP Rewards to use like cash toward a future Rite Aid purchase. The +UP Rewards print on the bottom of register receipts once $25 in select oral care products have been purchased.
"Oral health is a natural subject for patients to discuss with their Rite Aid pharmacist, who is one of the most accessible members of most patients’ health care teams," Robert Thompson, executive vice president of pharmacy at Rite Aid, said in a statement. "Our pharmacists can show patients that by practicing smart dental habits, they’re taking steps to protect their mouth and overall health for years to come."
The oral health guide is available now in Rite Aid’s 4,700 stores and online at RiteAid.com. Topics include how inflammation from poor oral health may be linked to heart and blood vessel damage; why people with diabetes must guard against mouth disease; how parents can promote good oral care with their children, starting before they can brush their own teeth; how to react in a dental emergency such as a broken, knocked out or chipped tooth; how to ease persistent dry mouth, a common side effect of many medications; which foods are harmful to teeth and healthier alternatives for better oral health; and how to floss and brush properly.
In addition, RiteAid.com visitors can watch videos about correct brushing and flossing techniques, receive oral health tips for children or people with diabetes, and learn about opportunities for low-cost dental care.
