DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. has named Thomas Sabatino Jr. as executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

The 52-year-old Sabatino, who has previously been general counsel for United Airlines Inc., Schering-Plough Corp., Baxter International Inc. and American Medical International Inc., replaces Dana Green, who recently retired after 37 years with Walgreens.

Executives praised the 61-year-old Green, noting her innumerable contributions to the drug chain during her nearly four decades as an in-house attorney and general counsel.

“The clear legal counsel and advice, as well as strong ethical foundation and support for team members that Dana provided to the company throughout her career, contributed greatly to Walgreens’ growth and success during each year she was with the company,” Walgreens president and chief executive officer Greg Wasson stated. “Each member of the management team at Walgreens can thank her for the guidance and support she provided to them at some point in their career.”

Green joined Walgreens in 1974 as an attorney in employee relations. She has been general counsel and corporate secretary since 2004 and was named an executive vice president in 2010.
