BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam’s Club is offering an expanded menu of immunizations this cold and flu season at all of its pharmacy locations.
The warehouse club chain said Monday that through Nov. 15 it’s making available 10 vaccinations, including for shingles, chickenpox and whooping cough, among others. The vaccines are administered by registered nurses in partnership with Mollen Immunization Clinics.
Sam’s Club, which has 552 pharmacy stores, is offering the added immunizations as part of parent company’s Walmart’s expanded roster of vaccinations.
The available vaccines include flu and pneumonia (pneumococcal) which are offered at all Sam’s Clubs with a pharmacy, as well as hepatitis A and B; chickenpox (varicella); HPV (human papilloma virus); MMR (measles, mumps, rubella); meningitis (meningococcal); shingles (herpes zoster); and Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis).
Sam’s Club noted that according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), many adults haven’t received one or more of their recommended vaccines. And a new online survey of over 1,000 U.S. adults by Sam’s Club found that more than two-thirds of Americans are unaware of the availability of CDC-recommended vaccines other than the flu shot. Though most have received a flu shot (62%) or Tdap (59%), the vast majority of Americans said they haven’t gotten any of the other CDC-recommended vaccines in their lifetimes.
"Undervaccinated communities can face a greater risk of local outbreaks of disease, and the CDC’s recommended vaccine schedule for adults is a great reference to ensure that our communities stay healthy," Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of health and wellness for Sam’s Club, said in a statement. "By offering the CDC’s recommended vaccines this year, Sam’s Club pharmacies continue to help our communities live healthy at a remarkable value."
