BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Men’s health, including tests for prostate cancer, will be the focus of free health screenings next month at Sam’s Club pharmacies.
The Walmart warehouse club chain said Friday that it plans to host free health screenings on June 8 at its 565 pharmacy locations.
Though the event highlights men’s health, in recognition of Men’s Health Month in June, screenings will be available for men and women, according to Sam’s Club.
Tests to be offered at the health screening, valued at up to $150, include prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test for men, which measures a protein produced by cancerous and noncancerous prostate tissue and can help identify cancer early on; thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test for women, which measures thyroid hormone levels and identifies overactive and underactive thyroid glands, which can be the root of various health problems; blood pressure; body mass index (BMI); and vision.
Sam’s Club added that it has offered PSA tests and TSH tests for three years.
"It is important for men to actively monitor their health and understand the unique issues they can face," Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of health and wellness at Sam’s Club, said in a statement. "Sam’s Club hosts preventive screenings to offer a free and easy way for men to receive an annual PSA test, for families to offer the gift of health for dad this Father’s Day, and to help our customers understand how preventive care can save lives."
