BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Sam’s Club this weekend is scheduled to host free children’s health screenings at all of its pharmacy locations.
The Walmart warehouse club chain said Monday that its more than 500 pharmacies will hold children’s health checks on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The free services include body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure tests, vision screening to determine potential eye care needs, and DNA and fingerprint kits (with take-home DNA swabs including instructions on collecting and storing a saliva sample) to help protect children in the event they are ever lost.
In addition, Sam’s Club will distribute Sesame Street’s "Healthy Teeth, Healthy Me" multimedia dental care kits, which teach children about oral health and will be available in English and Spanish. The kit includes an original Sesame Street DVD and a family booklet and online resources, such as public service messages, a community health providers’ guide, an interactive game and a downloadable "brushy brush" song to help make brushing fun.
"Reinforcing healthy habits for children is an important part of back-to-school planning, and Sam’s Club is proud to help parents accomplish this responsibility for the second year in a row," Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of health and wellness at Sam’s Club, said in a statement. "We have provided 1.4 million free health screenings in the past year and a half, and we remain committed to providing quality health solutions for the entire family."
Sam’s Club added that its next free health screening, to be held Sept. 8, will focus on diabetes management.
