MISSION, Kan. — ScriptPro and Xelios Biometrics have into a multiyear licensing act in which Xelios will supply biometric authentication technology for ScriptPro’s pharmacy automation and management systems.

ScriptPro said Thursday that it will use Xelios biometrics during the prescription dispensing process to identify authorized pharmacy staff as well as to track and store information about who handles a prescription.

The goal is to give ScriptPro customers a biometric option to the ID cards and PIN codes they now use, according to the company. Biometric identifiers, such as fingerprints, are distinctive, measurable characteristics and are more reliable in verifying identity than ID cards or PINs, ScriptPro noted.

"We believe biometric authentication is the simplest and most powerful way to implement controls over pharmacy processes," stated Mike Coughlin, ScriptPro’s president and chief executive officer. "We have tested a number of technologies in this area and feel that Xelios has taken this method to a new level of speed and accuracy."

ScriptPro develops, supplies and supports robotics-based management, workflow and telepharmacy systems for pharmacies.
