TORONTO — Shoppers Drug Mart Corp. saw proceeds for its annual fundraising campaign in support of women’s health rise nearly 31% this year.
The Canadian drug chain said Thursday that its 2012 Tree of Life initiative, part of the the Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN platform, raised more than $2.8 million (Canadian) through the efforts of its associate-owners, store staff and customers.
Launched in late September, the four-week campaign received participation from more than 1,230 Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix drug stores and benefited 450 local women’s health organizations across Canada.
Shoppers Drug Mart noted that Tree of Life is national in scope but locally based, with all of the funds donated to women’s health groups in communities and neighborhoods that offer women resources to improve and maintain health in mind, body and spirit.
"Shoppers Drug Mart is thankful to the millions of participants who helped raise over $2.8 million for women’s health organizations across Canada," Lisa Gibbs, manager of community investment for Shoppers Drug Mart, said in a statement. "Each year, Canadian communities touch us with their support and generosity and the response this year exceeded all expectations. Through the support and commitment demonstrated by our customers, associate-owners and their store teams, we are able to provide essential funding to local women’s health organizations who strive to meet the health needs of Canadian women."
Shoppers Drug Mart WOMEN represents the company’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of all Canadian women. Encompassing five partnership programs, and developed with leading experts and institutions in women’s health, the initiative aims to connect women to health information and resources to help them improve and maintain optimal health. In announcing the program last year, the drug chain said it plans to provide more than $40 million over five years to organizations focused on women’s health and wellness.
