Spectrum Brands to enlarge global headquarters

Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc. plans to expand its world headquarters building to accommodate growth over the next several years.

MIDDLETON, Wis. — Spectrum Brands Holdings Inc. plans to expand its world headquarters building to accommodate growth over the next several years.

The consumer products company said plans call for a 30,000-square-foot addition to be made at the south end of its four-story, 220,000-square-foot headquarters, located at 3001 Deming Way in Middleton, Wis.

Groundbreaking set for next month, and the project is scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2017, according to Spectrum Brands. The expansion will be developed and owned by the Livesey Co., a Middleton-based commercial real estate developer that owns the building.

Spectrum Brands said the expansion also will bring new positions in administration, marketing and technology.

“Since our origins 110 years ago as a battery manufacturer on Madison’s east side, our company has played a significant role as a major employer in Dane County and other parts of Wisconsin,” stated Andreas Rouvé, chief executive officer of Spectrum Brands Holdings. “We are pleased to further increase our long history of investment in Wisconsin, which adds to our nearly $100 million of direct economic impact on the state each year.”

Spectrum Brands moved into the current building in October 2013. The location also houses several North American divisional operations, North American shared services and a state-of-the-art technology center to spur new product development for the battery, personal care and home appliances businesses. The Middleton facility was built to accommodate as many as 675 positions, a capacity that the company noted was reached nearly reached two-and-a-half years later.

Besides its global headquarters in Middleton, Spectrum Brands has Wisconsin battery manufacturing plants in Fennimore, with 320 employees, and Portage, with 200 employees.

Spectrum Brands posted net sales of $4.69 billion in fiscal 2015. The company’s products span such categories as consumer batteries, residential locksets, residential builders’ hardware, faucets, shaving and grooming products, personal care products, small appliances, pet care, lawn and garden, home pest control, auto care and insect repellents.

Its brands include Rayovac, VARTA, Kwikset, Weiser, Baldwin, National Hardware, Pfister, Remington, George Foreman, Russell Hobbs, Black + Decker, Farberware, Tetra, Marineland, Nature’s Miracle, Dingo, 8-in-1, FURminator, IAMS, Eukanuba, Digest-eeze, Healthy-Hide, Littermaid, Spectracide, Cutter, Repel, Hot Shot, Black Flag, Armor All, STP and Liquid Fence, among others.
