BROOMFIELD, Colo. – Swisslog Healthcare has expanded its pharmacy automation offerings with the launch of Motif, a compact, semi-automated tabletop strip packager designed to provide enterprise-level accuracy without the need for pharmacy renovations.
Motif is designed to fit existing countertops, enabling pharmacies to increase or expand strip-packaging capacity without costly infrastructure changes. The system includes intuitive controls, LED-guided cells for precise medication placement, customizable print layouts, and easy-clean components that support unit-dose workflows and medication safety standards.
“As pharmacists take on expanded clinical roles, pharmacies need solutions that maximize efficiency while working within limited space,” said Connie Vigil, product manager for pharmacy automation at Swisslog Healthcare. “Motif offers flexibility and precision in a compact footprint, helping free up staff time without compromising medication safety.”
The tabletop packager aims to reduce errors and enhance adherence with consistent, reliable strip packaging. Swisslog Healthcare stated that Motif can be used as a standalone solution or integrated with existing automation systems, including AutoPack and ezCUT, to support broader workflow optimization.
According to Kevin Balla, RPh, clinical sales and channel development director at Swisslog Healthcare, Motif is well-suited for pharmacies with or without large-scale automation. “It’s ideal for overflow volume, urgent prescriptions, or specialized medications, and the user-friendly interface allows staff to become proficient quickly,” he said.
Swisslog Healthcare presented Motif at the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) annual meeting in December, providing pharmacy leaders with a firsthand view of the system’s capabilities.
The launch highlights Swisslog Healthcare’s continued emphasis on automation solutions that boost medication safety, optimize operational efficiency, and assist pharmacies in adapting to changing care models.
