Drug chains regroup following Baltimore riots

CVS Health and Rite Aid Corp. plan to rebuild stores that sustained heavy damage during the late April riots in Baltimore. CVS Health said it will rebuild two Baltimore stores that were destroyed. Three other Baltimore stores were shut temporarily.

Unmacht named CEO at Bartell

Brian Unmacht has been named chief executive officer of Bartell Drugs, becoming the first person from outside the Bartell family to hold that title. George D. Bartell, who had been the 62-store, Seattle-area chain’s CEO for 25 years, will continue to serve as chairman.

NACDS point-of-care testing certificate program debuts

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores community pharmacy-based point-of-care testing certificate program kicked off last month at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Pharmacy in Omaha. The multi-city tour will continue at colleges and schools of pharmacy during 2015.

Rempel named CIO, senior VP at Rite Aid

Rite Aid Corp. has hired information technology veteran Steve Rempel as senior vice president and chief information officer. Rempel will oversee the company’s IT systems, including network infrastructure, telecommunications and data security.

Three ‘industry icons’ honored by NACDS

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores bestowed the chain drug industry’s highest honors on three “industry icons” at its annual meeting here last month. Greg Wasson, former president and chief executive officer of Walgreen Co., received the Sheldon W. Fantle Lifetime Achievement Award.
