The acquisition of the Jean Coutu Group by Metro Inc. will create a $16 billion food and drug retailer with 1,307 stores in Quebec, Ontario and News Brunswick. Metro has agreed to purchase Coutu for $24.50 per share in cash and stock in a total deal valued at $4.5 billion ($3.6 billion U.S.).

CVS Health’s SilverScript Insurance Co. announced its new Medicare Prescription Drug Plan options for 2018. Under the new plan, Medicare beneficiaries in the continental U.S. can choose from two SilverScript plans that offer a $0 deductible in 47 states on formulary drugs in all five drug tiers.

Diplomat purchases software company

Diplomat Pharmacy Inc. has acquired 8th Day Software and Consulting LLC. With the purchase, the specialty pharmacy also appointed 8th Day Software founder and chief executive officer Dave Loschinskey as Diplomat’s chief information officer.
