CVS closes Navarro Discount Pharmacy acquisition

CVS Health has wrapped up its acquisition of Hispanic-owned regional drug chain Navarro Discount Pharmacy. CVS reiterated on Monday that the chain’s 33 stores, located in the Miami area, will keep the Navarro banner.

Shoppers Drug Mart tests broader food assortment

Shoppers Drug Mart (SDM) is introducing meat and produce in selected stores. The Canadian drug chain, acquired this year by Loblaw Cos., is piloting sales of food including cuts of meat, fruit and vegetables, as well as such prepared food as sushi and salads.

Rite Aid sees same-store sales climb in August

Solid pharmacy results helped lift Rite Aid Corp. to a year-over-year gain in same-store sales for August. Rite Aid said Thursday that for the five weeks ended Aug. 30, comparable-store sales rose 3.9%, in line with increases earlier this summer of 4.6% in July and 3.9% in June.

CVS Caremark adopts new corporate name
