Merck acquires Cubist Pharmaceuticals

Merck & Co. said Monday it will acquire Cubist Pharmaceuticals Inc. for $8.4 billion. The transaction will include $1.1 billion in net debt (based on projected cash balances) and other considerations for a total transaction value of about $9.5 billion.

Galderma introduces Cetaphil Baby line

Galderma Laboratories’ Cetaphil skin care brand has made a foray in the baby product arena with the launch of Cetaphil Baby. Making its debut this week, the line includes five products: Cetaphil Baby Diaper Cream, Wash and Shampoo, Ultra Moisturizing Wash, Daily Lotion and Moisturizing Oil.

Actavis ships generic version of Intuniv

Actavis plc has released guanfacine hydrochloride tablets as part of a settlement agreement with Shire plc. Actavis said Monday that its product is a generic version of Shire’s Intuniv tablets, a medication for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

PepsiCo announces global leadership appointments

PepsiCo make has made a pair of key executive appointments for its global operations. The food and beverage giant said Monday that Enderson Guimaraes, currently chief executive officer of PepsiCo Europe, has been named executive vice president of global categories and operations for PepsiCo.

Bayer Consumer Care’s Heist to retire

David Heist, director of industry affairs and customer relations at Bayer Consumer Care, has announced his retirement. In an e-mail message to industry colleagues on Monday, Heist said he plans to retire from Bayer on May 1, 2015. He has served in his current position at Bayer for 20 years.

Perrigo releases Protopic authorized generic

Perrigo Co. plc has launched an authorized generic version of Protopic Ointment 0.1% and 0.03%. Perrigo said Monday that it has begun shipping its generic product to pharmacies. Protopic Ointment (tacrolimus), from Astellas U.S. LLC, is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe eczema.
