DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross in response to the deadly storms and tornadoes that recently hit the Southeast.
The drug store chain said late Monday that the donation will help meet the immediate needs of individuals and families in affected communities.
Walgreens also said that as part of its disaster relief effort it’s providing nonperishable food, medical supplies and water to local shelters and first responders in Alabama and Georgia. Cleaning supplies and three truckloads of water have been donated as well.
The company added that with about 300 Walgreens locations serving communities across those states, local team members have offered their support with cleanup and recovery efforts.
"As so many try to pull together to recover after these devastating storms and tornadoes, we want to offer any assistance we can to our friends, customers and communities to help them get back on their feet," Chuck Greener, vice president of corporate affairs and communications at Walgreens, said in a statement. "Our thoughts are with those affected by this tragedy, and we are in contact with groups on the ground to help provide critical supplies to those most in need."
