DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — Telehealth adoption continues to reshape U.S. health care as providers expand virtual consultations, remote patient monitoring and digitally connected care for patients with chronic conditions.

The global telehealth and telemedicine market is projected to grow from $118.8 billion in 2026 to $198.9 billion by 2031, reflecting a compound annual growth rate of 10.9%, according to a new MarketsandMarkets report.

In the United States, the shift has implications for pharmacies and other community health care providers as virtual care becomes increasingly integrated into chronic disease management, connected medical devices, and home-based care.

Remote patient monitoring is a major component of that expansion. The report highlights growing demand for continuous monitoring of conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Wearable devices, connected technology and data analytics enable providers to track patient health outside traditional clinical settings and may reduce the need for some in-person visits.

Health care providers were the largest end-user segment of the telehealth market in 2025. Hospitals, clinics and physician groups are increasingly integrating virtual consultations and remote monitoring into routine care, including efforts to improve access for rural and medically underserved populations.

The market is also moving beyond standalone video visits toward more integrated virtual-care platforms that combine teleconsultations, remote monitoring, analytics, patient engagement, and clinical workflows. Artificial intelligence and deeper integration with electronic health records are driving that shift.

Several major U.S. health technology companies are expanding their capabilities in this space. The report identifies Epic Systems, Oracle, Doximity, Teladoc Health, GE HealthCare and Amwell as companies operating across the telehealth market.

The continued expansion of virtual care could create additional opportunities for pharmacies as health care delivery becomes more distributed and patients increasingly receive care through a mix of digital and in-person services.
