DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. has added three executives to its management ranks, including a new member of the senior leadership team.
Tim Theriault, 49, is slated to join Walgreens on October 1 as chief information officer and senior vice president. He will oversee the drug chain’s information technology strategy as the company looks to leverage its systems to help develop new businesses and strategic initiatives.
Theriault comes to Walgreens after spending 25 years at Northern Trust Corp. Most recently he was president of corporate and institutional services at the banking firm.
During his tenure with Northern Trust, Theriault was deeply involved in the company’s technology efforts, spending several years as president of worldwide operations and technology and as chief technology officer.
“Tim is a highly respected technology and banking executive who brings a unique combination of leadership, innovation and business intellect,” Walgreens president and chief executive officer Greg Wasson comments. “His strategic business skills, reputation for building teams and financial background give Tim a combination of technology and business expertise that extends well beyond the IT space.”
Dennis Wong, Walgreens’ previous chief information officer, has been named corporate vice president of information technologies. Plans call for Wong to focus on elevating the company’s in-store retail and corporate shared services IT systems.
In addition, Abhi Dhar has joined Walgreens as chief technology officer and vice president in the company’s e-commerce division, and Deborah Sabo has been named a divisional vice president of marketing services.
The 37-year-old Dhar is responsible for end-to-end delivery, development and innovation of the company’s online platform. Before joining Walgreens, Dhar was at TravelClick, where he served as chief information officer and senior vice president since 2006 and built an IT and product delivery organization by restructuring the team, recruiting talent and optimizing vendor relationships, the retailer says.
Sabo, who joined Walgreens last month, is responsible for the management and leadership of the drug chain’s consumer communications programs, including media, promotions and cause marketing. She also oversees in-store and out-of-store visual brand identity.
Previously, Sabo spent 18 years with Sara Lee Corp., most recently serving as that company’s vice president of marketing services. While at Sara Lee, she developed and oversaw communication plans for all of the company’s brands, including media, promotions, digital, merchandising and comarketing programs, according to Walgreens.
Before joining Sara Lee, Sabo spent five years at Block Drug Co. in New Jersey.
