Walgreens promotes personal care, beauty execs

Mike Spear has been appointed divisional merchandise manager of the personal care division at Walgreen Co. The retailer has also assigned Lauren Vondrasek to its beauty team with responsibilities for fragrance, sunglassses, cosmetics bags and trial/travel.

DEERFIELD, Ill. — Mike Spear has been appointed divisional merchandise manager of the personal care division at Walgreen Co.

The retailer has also assigned Lauren Vondrasek to its beauty team with responsibilities for fragrance, sunglassses, cosmetics bags and trial/travel.

Spear has 21 years of retail experience, holding a variety of positions in sales, store operations, and domestic and import purchasing.

He has been a merchandise manager and vice president/divisional merchandise manager for Walmart and has also held posts at Sara Lee Corp., Recycled Paper Greetings Inc. and Splash Products LLC.

Most recently, he was Walgreens’ director of category planning.

Vondrasek, who will oversee Walgreens’ purchasing of fragrances, sunglasses, cosmetics bags and trial/travel, began her career with the drug chain in 1994 in store management.

She joined the purchasing department in 2003 as a replenishment buyer in training and, two years later, was promoted to category manager.

Since then, Vondrasek has managed several categories in the beauty care and personal care divisions.
