DEERFIELD, Ill. — Consumers looking to recover deleted or corrupted digital photos, and other "lost" electronic files, can now turn to their local Walgreens store for help.
Walgreen Co. on Thursday said it has launched its new Media Recovery Service at Walgreens Photo Centers in the chain’s more than 7,500 drug stores.
According to the company, the offering is the first digital photo recovery service of its kind at retail drug stores nationwide. The service offers customers professional retrieval of lost images and other files from memory cards and USB drives, Walgreens said, adding that until now customers with lost digital photos had to resort to do-it-yourself recovery software or expensive mail-in recovery services.
Provided by data retrieval specialist FlashFixers, the Walgreens Media Recovery Service supports recovery of standard image formats and camera RAW files, as well as most sound, video, office and graphics files. Recovery prices are based on media size and begin at $39.99.
The recovered files are saved to a CD or a DVD for customer pickup at Walgreens. The customer’s storage card or drive is returned, and there is no charge if the recovery is not successful.
Walgreens said that with more consumers than ever storing and sharing photos digitally, and the chance for lost digital content higher, the recovery service adds another measure of convenience to its photo centers.
