DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreen Co. is highlighting Hispanic-owned vendors this month as part of its Community Corner program.

The drug store chain said Friday that during October, which is Hispanic Heritage Month, the Walgreens Community Corner Program will showcase products made by Hispanic-owned businesses. The Latino vendor partners will be recognized through print advertisements, in-store announcements, in-store product demonstrations and Walgreens.com.

From Oct. 1 through Oct. 15, the following products will be featured at 50% off the regular price at the Walgreens Community Corner product web site at Walgreens.com/cc: Arsa Canadian Flaxseed with Mexican Cactus by Arsa Distributing Inc.; Eucalin Kid’s Syrup Refreshing with Lime Flavor by Arsa Distributing, Inc.; Fungi Nail Double Strength Anti-Fungal Solution by Kramer Labs Inc.; RaZbaby Keep-it-Kleen Pacifier by Razbaby; Care Medical History Bracelet by GC Publishers LLC; Zote Laundry Soap Bar by Mercado Latino Inc.; and Studio 35 and Octopus hair clips and accessories by Mercado Latino.

Walgreens also has partnered with the League of United Latin American Citizens to host health fairs during October at select stores, where customers will be able to try featured products and take home samples. The events will also include free health screenings for cholesterol, blood pressure, bone density, blood glucose levels, waist circumference and body mass index. In addition, the League of United Latin American Citizens, as part of its Latinos Living Healthy Initiative, will deliver an education campaign about the increase of childhood obesity among Latinos and community health resources that can help overcome this epidemic.

"These Community Corner events will provide a platform to showcase our Hispanic suppliers and promote an environment that enhances the development of a diverse group of entrepreneurs," Gleatha Glispie, Walgreens’ director of supplier diversity, said in a statement. "It also allows us to demonstrate the value of Walgreens as a health and wellness resource."

Walgreens Community Corner is a supplier diversity initiative designed to allow consumers to easily identify and purchase products produced by diverse companies. The drug chain launched the program in February featuring products made by African-American vendors in honor of Black History Month and products from women-owned businesses in May.

In the coming months, plans call for the Community Corner program to feature businesses owned by Native Americans and Asian Americans, Walgreens said.

"It’s important to represent these important minority-vendor partnerships in such a visible and meaningful way for everyday shoppers," Glispie stated. "This is another example of the many ways we’re working to strengthen these relationships each day to help support the economic base of the communities we serve across our 7,500 stores."
