UPPER NYACK, N.Y. – The Global Healthy Living Foundation (GHLF) has announced a new collaboration with Walgreens. This ongoing partnership highlights a shared commitment to health education and community engagement, aiming to create a tangible impact on those dealing with serious, often lifelong conditions.

More than half of all Americans — a whopping 133 million — wrestle with at least one chronic illness like arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, or heart disease, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). With an aging demographic, these numbers are set to hit 170 million by 2030. There is a real need to help individuals boost their health and encourage communities to make smart lifestyle choices that can decrease the risk of these diseases.

Walgreens and GHLF will host a virtual health series, “Global Healthy Lifestyle Events” that aims to promote healthier living and provide attendees helpful resources and tips for managing their health conditions. Speakers will focus on everyday life areas like eating well, staying active, managing stress, keeping up with vaccines, and remembering to take prescribed medications. The goal is to encourage people to make active decisions that improve their health and well-being.

Each event boasts a team of GHLF-affiliated health professionals, including a physical therapist, mindfulness educator, registered dietitian nutritionist, and pharmacist. Presentations will provide practical information and small, yet impactful, steps that people living with chronic disease can incorporate into their daily disease management strategies and improve their quality of life. Events are live and free to attend, with enduring recordings available and promoted to the larger patient community.

“Walgreens pharmacists across the country are the most accessible provider when it comes to management of chronic illnesses,” said Anita Patel, VP Pharmacy Services Development from Walgreens. “This virtual health series extends the relationships we’ve built in communities across the country by offering actionable health education from experts who understand the challenges people living with one or more chronic diseases face managing their conditions day-after-day and year-after-year. Partnering with the Global Healthy Living Foundation means the events will be patient-centered and, through their vast digital network, reach large populations of patients this summer and fall.”

Holistic Approach to Wellness

There are three planned virtual events that will incorporate holistic perspectives, including “From Blood Pressure to Blood Sugar: Why Knowing (and Managing) Your Numbers Matters,” “Making the Most of Your Vaccines,” and “Staying on Track: How Eating, Exercising, and Mindfulness Play a Role in Medication Adherence.” The inaugural event will take place on Zoom on Tuesday, July 25th at 7pm EST and is free to attend.

Planned speakers include:

  • Dr. Chad Woodard, PhD, DPT, Founder and Owner of Symbio Physio
  • Ginger Hultin, MS, RDN, CSO, Founder and Owner of Ginger Hultin Nutrition
  • Dr. Alejando Chaoul, PhD, Founder and Director of The Jung Center’s Mind Body Spirit Institute
  • Emily Shafer, PharmD, Senior Manager for Pharmacy Insights Walgreens

“We understand that living with a chronic condition involves more than just doctor visits and medication,” said Seth Ginsberg, GHLF Co-Founder and President. “It’s about everyday decisions that influence our well-being, such as nutrition, exercise, stress management, understanding our health data and keeping vaccinations up to date. These all significantly affect the quality of our lives.”

“We’re proud to continue our dynamic partnership with Walgreens to keep the healthy lifestyle at the center of proper chronic disease management,” said Ginsberg. “Our joint efforts aim to educate our patient community and remind them that pharmacists are crucial members of their health care team, offering essential guidance beyond just dispensing medicines.”
