DEERFIELD, Ill. — Walgreens has launched Walgreens Weight Management, a new digital healthcare program created to offer eligible adults personalized, clinician-guided support for weight loss, including access to FDA-approved GLP-1 medications.
The program expands Walgreens’ Virtual Healthcare platform and targets eligible overweight and obese adults aged 18 to 64 who plan to self-pay for GLP-1 therapy. Through this service, patients participate in an online video consultation with a licensed physician or nurse practitioner who reviews their health history, weight-related goals, and medical needs. Providers may prescribe GLP-1 medications for eligible patients who are beginning or continuing treatment.
The program offers on-demand follow-up visits through chat or video for medication adjustments and managing side effects between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. CT, seven days a week. Each visit costs $49, with no monthly subscription needed. Prescriptions can be sent to the pharmacy of the patient’s choice and are designed to work with Walgreens’ existing pharmacy services.
Walgreens has also expanded its Rx Savings Finder tool, powered by RxSense, to include lower prices from Novo Nordisk, starting at $149 per month for recently launched Wegovy 1.5 mg or 4 mg tablets, and $199 per month for the 0.25 mg and 0.5 mg injectable formulations, subject to terms and conditions.
“Expanding our virtual healthcare platform to include weight management is part of our ongoing commitment to listening to patients and the services they want from their local pharmacy,” said Rick Gates, chief pharmacy officer, Walgreens. “By combining trusted clinical expertise with the reach of our digital and pharmacy network, we’re helping eligible patients take meaningful steps toward better health, on their own terms.”
According to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s 2025 Employer Health Benefits Survey, fewer than one in four employers cover GLP-1 medications when used primarily for weight management. Walgreens said the new program offers an alternative for patients without employer-sponsored coverage.
The service is currently available in most states.
