Walmart and SCAN launch co-branded Medicare Advantage plans

The plans integrate Walmart’s pharmacy, vision, and broader health and wellness capabilities.

LONG BEACH, Calif., and BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart and SCAN Health Plan have launched two co-branded Medicare Advantage plans that combine health coverage with pharmacy, food, over-the-counter, and other wellness benefits for older adults.

The SCAN Walmart Health Advantage HMO and the SCAN Walmart Medicare Complete Chronic Special Needs Plan (C-SNP) will be available starting Jan. 1, 2027, to eligible Medicare beneficiaries in six Texas counties and three Arizona counties. The companies said the plans could be available to more than 2 million Medicare enrollees.

“Walmart plays an important role in the everyday lives of many older adults, whether they’re shopping for groceries, filling prescriptions or looking for products that support their health and wellness,” said Zack Myers, national general manager of SCAN Health Plan. “Together, we’re offering Medicare Advantage plans that combine strong benefits, personalized support and innovative tools that can help members make choices that support their individual health goals.”

The plans integrate Walmart’s pharmacy, vision, and broader health and wellness capabilities. Benefits include coverage for eligible OTC products and healthy foods across Walmart’s assortment, along with prescription drug, dental, and vision benefits.

Members who opt in will also have access to Walmart’s Everyday Health Signals, an AI-powered platform that analyzes everyday shopping behavior to deliver nutrition insights. The platform can offer food recommendations based on a member’s health goals, preferences and shopping habits.

“For older adults, the value of a health plan can come down to how easy it is to understand and use the benefits available to them,” said Pravene Nath, M.D., group director for consumer health and data solutions at Walmart U.S. “These plans are designed to help support members and Walmart customers with the everyday decisions that impact health and wellness, from groceries and nutritious foods to prescriptions, vision, and other everyday essentials. Walmart Everyday Health Signals helps enrolled members understand the health impact of these decisions and offers personalized, goal-oriented guidance for healthier eating. Walmart and SCAN are creating a convenient and connected experience that helps members get more value from their coverage and better supports their health throughout the year.”

The SCAN Walmart Medicare Complete C-SNP is designed for beneficiaries with chronic conditions, including diabetes, congestive heart failure, and cardiovascular disease. Benefits include $0 copays for primary care visits and Tier 1 and Tier 2 prescription drugs, subject to plan terms, and a $2,400 annual FlexEssentials allowance for eligible OTC products and healthy foods.
